Zebra Crossings Around Malta Go Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As Malta woke up to the first day of October, a number of zebra crossings around the island turned pink to raise awareness on Pink October, which is primarily focused on breast cancer awareness.

The nationwide campaign also features Movember, aiming to raise awareness on the most common female and male cancers on the whole.

Zebras Go Pink kicked off this morning with a symbolic walk across the freshly painted pink and white zebra crossing on the Bormla promenade steps.

The opening was led by Chair and Campaign Leader Michelle Muscat, Transport Malta  CEO Kurt Farrugia and Mr Michael Cohen and Mayors of Senglea, Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Kalkara.

In a statement, Michelle Muscat reiterated the importance of this educational campaign which aims to engage and educate the public on the need to check themselves, on “the how” to check themselves properly, do the necessary screenings and tests, and face the fear that most times prevents them from getting diagnosed in time.

Pink Oct- Mov ‘24 is focusing on three female cancers: breast, ovarian and cervical cancer, and on two common male cancers: testicular and prostate.

The 2024 campaign is inspired by the idea of finding the power within to step forward and upwards positively.
