Żurrieq Jeweller’s Murderer Sentenced To 32 Years In Prison

Mohamed Anas Boulam has just been jailed for 32 years following the beating and killing of Żurrieq jeweller Joseph Carabott.
Boualam hit Carabott, 67, repeatedly in the face using a knife handle during the attack in August 2023. The Moroccan national admitted to wilful homicide, illegal arrest and theft.
Carabott was beaten unconscious after he called out for help during the robbery. He was found in his jewellery store lying on the floor in a pool of blood by his children. He was then rushed to Mater Dei Hospital. Unfortunately, Carabott passed away in April 2025, after the attack caused him severe brain damage.
Boulam’s co-accuser, Zouhair Hadoumi, 28, continues to deny the charges while Donna Sciberras previously admitted her role in the botched heist and was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
AG lawyers Kaylie Bonett and Anthony Vella prosecuted, assisted by police inspector Lydon Zammit. Defence lawyers George Anton Buttigieg and Mark Mifsud Cutajar appeared for Boulam and Hadouni respectively. Lawyers Stephen Tonna Lowell and Ana Thomas assisted the victim’s family.
