President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg had a rather important reciprocal meeting held in Brussels.

Borg and Metsola discussed several important issues and priorities for Malta within the European Union context.

With the European Parliament elections approaching in about a year, Borg emphasised the significance of the Maltese and Gozitan people participating in the election to choose their six representatives in the European Parliament.

The Minister highlighted that the European Parliament is the only EU institution directly elected by the people of Europe, underscoring the importance of selecting representatives who will effectively represent Malta’s interests.

The discussions during the meeting focused on the challenges faced by the EU, the role of the European Parliament, and the need for coordinated efforts among the three main institutions (the European Parliament, European Commission, and European Council) to implement necessary reforms and initiatives for the future.

Borg concluded by expressing his satisfaction with the productive meeting and his anticipation of further updates from Metsola.

Additionally, he expressed a desire to have future meetings with the Presidents of other European institutions to continue strengthening Malta’s voice within the EU.
