Vehicle Donation To Ease Patient Transport At Mater Dei
During a special ceremony, Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia received a vehicle donated to him, which will now be used by Mater Dei Hospital to assist patients who need transportation to attend regular medical appointments, including dialysis.
It was explained that after consultations between Speaker Anġlu Farrugia and Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, it was decided that the best use of the vehicle would be to help those in need.
Consequently, the car has been dedicated to patients undergoing dialysis or other medical conditions that require regular care and specialised transport.
Speaker Farrugia expressed his gratitude and solidarity during the presentation, emphasising the importance of placing public resources at the service of people in need. He said:
“I feel truly honoured to be part of this moment of service and solidarity. This is not just the presentation of a vehicle, but a gesture of love towards people and towards the common good.”
Opposition Health Spokesperson Stephen Spiteri also commented, highlighting the practical impact of the initiative: it will provide direct support to dialysis patients and ensure that they have access to every possible form of assistance to make their journeys for regular treatment easier.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela described the donation as a generous and valuable gesture, which will help hundreds of patients travel to and from Mater Dei Hospital for their treatments. He added:
“I thank the donor for this noble act and Speaker Anġlu Farrugia for bringing this idea forward. Together, we are seeing the real benefit this can bring to patients.”
The donation marks a concrete example of public and private collaboration aimed at enhancing patient care and easing access to essential medical services in Malta.
