New Survey Shines Light On How The People Of Malta Use Their Phones

A new MISCO report has shone a light on how the people of Malta use their smartphones, with social media apps by the far the most popular type of mobile app.
The study reveals that 65% of smartphone owners make use of some kind of social media app. Meanwhile, 56% use their phones to access maps and 55% to check the weather. 53% of people make use of “productivity apps”, such as online banking.

Food delivery apps, like Bolt and Wolt, have also gained popularity with 39% of smartphone owners using them.
Over the years, social networking app usage has increased from 61% in 2018 to 65% in 2023. In contrast, news app usage has decreased from 45% in 2021 to 35% in 2023.

The report also highlights gender and age differences in app usage. Females are more likely than males to use social media, food delivery, retail, and game apps, while males tend to access news and sports apps.
