TVM journalist Joanna Camilleri has filed a police report after receiving several misogynistic social media comments following her World Cup commentary that late Queen Elizabeth II would have been proud of England’s 6-2 victory over Iran.

Camilleri had already called out a number of comments, including by people who told her she “must be on her period” or that she should cut a better figure if she were to cook and clean at home.

She has now taken it a step further, teaming up with the Għaqda Ġurnalisti Sports to file a police report for “hate speech”.

“It’s disgraceful that some people are still trying to mock people and think they are untouchables just because they’re writing on social media,” the Għaqda’s president Sandro Micallef said.

“Hopefully this case serves as a lesson to all the keyboard heroes out there.”

Micallef said he won’t comment further on the case and has full faith in the police and courts to deliver justice.
