Ten more localities have been added to the new door-to-door plastic bottle recycling scheme for over 60s and Blue Badge holders.

These are Santa Venera, Żurrieq, Ħal Safi, Ħal Kirkop, Ħ’Attard, Ħaż-Żabbar, Marsaskala, Xgħajra, Mosta and Mġarr.

This means that residents of 30 localities can now take advantage of this service.

Launched earlier this year, the new scheme allows people over 60 and Blue Badge holders to call for the collection of their plastic bottle.

The bottles are instantly deposited into a mobile BCRS machine and users receive their refund voucher on the spot.

The Environment Ministry said that around 145,000 beverage containers have already been collected since the scheme was launched last month, with an average of 250 bookings per week.

“When we launched the mobile RVM pilot project, our goal was to reach as many people as possible,” Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said.

“It is rewarding to see rapid growth, with more localities included in the next phase of the initiative.”

“This is just the beginning – with proper investment, we aim to expand this service throughout all of Malta.”

Bookings for the new localities will open tomorrow, Tuesday 5th August, and can be made from 8am to 8pm, Monday through Sunday, by calling 1718 or emailing [email protected].
