‘100 Power Cuts In 10 Days’: Several Maltese Residents Suffering Low Voltage Problems

Since an Qormi resident spoke out to Lovin Malta about how she is suffering persistent daily power cuts due to low voltage, several people have warned they are facing similar situations.

Complaints have been received from all around the country – including Żurrieq, Birżebbuġa, San Ġwann, Żurrieq, Balzan, St Paul’s Bay, and Blata l-Bajda.

In some cases, voltage has been reported to be as low as 190V, well below Enemalta’s 230V (±10%V) nominal voltage.

In one particularly striking case, a St Paul’s Bay resident said his apartment has been hit by over 100 power cuts caused by low voltage in the past ten days.

“We made a report by phone, which took us an hour, last Saturday (13th July), but we’re still waiting,” he said. “We have spent over €25,000 on ACs and appliances and we are afraid that something can go wrong with them.”

“Last night we didn’t have electricity for six hours, and they answered that they know about it. This is happening every year.”

“If they keep on connecting new customers, hotels etc. they have to improve the network and hubs; I think this is the major problem. Something should change, you can’t live in the 21st century like a banana republic.”

Meanwhile, the Qormi resident said the problem persisted last night, and her electricity went out four times in a single hour.

“I had to spend another night with the AC turned off because every time I turned it on, the electricity went off,” she said.
