13 people working on construction sites were found to be living in Malta without the proper documentation.

A police operation earlier today on construction sites in St Paul’s Bay uncovered irregular migrants from Georgia, Albania, Pakistan, Mali, Senegal and Nigeria working on the sites.

No details were given on the contractors involved and whether charges will be issued against them.

The latest operation forms part of a wide-ranging initiative to curb irregular migration in Malta.

So far, almost 200 people have been deported while countless more arrested.

The process has now begun to see the people arrested today repatriated.

Investigations are still underway.
