Around 21 migrants, reportedly Moroccans, escaped from the Ħal-Safi Detention Centre at around 10:15 this morning.

Police forces immediately began a search for the escapees, with four of them being caught within the first 30 thirty minutes. By 11am, nine of them had been caught.

The police have urged the public to contact them on 21224001 if they see any suspicious activity in the Ħal-Safi and Żurrieq areas. It is believed that the remaining escapees are still in the area.
