A 19-year-old driver was hospitalised after he was involved in a serious accident in Mdina Road, Ħaż-Żebbuġ this evening.

A police spokesperson said the young man, who lives in Qormi, crashed a Toyota Vitz into a building at around 6:15pm.

TVM reported that the man had lost control of the car, crashing into a wall and a crash barrier with such velocity that the engine was ripped out of the vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no passengers were in the car at the time.

He was taken to hospital and his condition is as yet unknown.
