A teen living in Swieqi was found guilty of attempting to sell cannabis after being caught with several baggies on him.

The 19-year-old Englishman was caught after police officers stopped a man who was acting suspiciously.

When asked by police, he said he had been given a free bag of weed, handed to him by the teen.

Police arrested the 19-year-old, and when searching him found found around 18 bags of cannabis, each carrying around 0.5g, amounting to just over 9 grams.

The teen pleaded guilty to attempted trafficking of the plant.

He was sentenced to one year prison suspended for two years.

In Malta, it is legal to carry up to 7 grams of cannabis on one’s person; however, it is not currently allowed under any circumstances to sell cannabis to a third party.
