A 19-year-old Maltese man has been charged with mugging a delivery person in Qawra yesterday.

This is not the first theft from a delivery person in Malta. With the COVID-19 pandemic closing all restaurants, delivery services are booming and thefts are starting to grow.

At around 4pm yesterday, a 26-year-old delivery man was busy delivering food to apartments in the area when he was approached by the alleged thief. He snatched the delivery man’s money pouch after asking for some spare change.

The police were immediately called and rushed to the scene. They were able to apprehend the alleged thief soon after.

The man, who is a Ħamrun resident, will appear before Magistrate Charmaine Galea later today.
