200 Kilos Of Cannabis Resin Stolen From Armed Forces Container In Ħal Safi

Malta’s law enforcement is currently investigating the theft of approximately 200kg of cannabis resin from a container stored on a property belonging to the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) in Ħal Safi.
The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning, at around 3am, when police were alerted to a container break-in at the AFM site.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the container, which held drugs as part of an ongoing court inquiry, had been forcibly opened, with its seals cut and clear signs of tampering.
According to the police, the missing cannabis resin was being stored under the custody of the Armed Forces of Malta, raising serious concerns about the security protocols in place.
The case has been handed over to Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici, who is leading the inquiry, as investigations continue to determine how the theft occurred and who was responsible.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri offered his resignation to Prime Minister Robert Abela this morning after he was informed of the situation with Opposition Leader Bernard Grech calling on Abela to accept Camilleri’s resignation.
Grech criticised the minister’s handling of the situation, highlighting the lack of clarity in Camilleri’s statement, including the omission of specific details such as the type of drug and the quantity stolen—details which have now come to light.
