2024 Budget ‘For The Common Good’ Announced For 30th October
Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that the Budget for 2024 will be presented on 30th October.
In a new update, Abela revealed that he had convened with MPs on Saturday morning to discuss the government’s legislative agenda for the upcoming months and years.
Abela emphasised that the forthcoming budget will encompass essential proposals for parliament’s consideration. Parliament is set to resume its sessions at the beginning of October following the summer recess.
He underscored that the focus of the 2024 Budget will be on the “common good,” aligning with the government’s vision for the country and the implementation of its electoral manifesto.
While Abela has provided limited details about this year’s budget plans thus far, he hinted earlier in the week at fiscal measures designed to promote the distinct development strategy for Gozo.
Finance Minister Clyde Caruana also weighed in earlier in the week, assuring an “expansive” budget. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining energy subsidies, which help keep energy and fuel prices below market rates.
However, Caruana acknowledged the persistently high budget deficit and cautioned that inflation might not ease in the coming year, and urged Malta to make concerted efforts to balance its financial books.
