A 21-year-old man has been charged with the rape of two women, one of whom is a minor, within 24 hours.

The man, who is from Tarxien and has had his name blocked from publication by the courts, was denied bail after pleading not guilty to the charges.

The two rapes happened between 3rd and 4th June. One woman was reportedly out drinking in Tarxien when the man offered her a lift.

She was so drunk that she could not resist the sexual adavances from the accused and was unable to identify the accused after the incident.

However, he was arrested for allegedly raping a minor, with DNA linking him to the previous case. That girl was raped following a party in Little Armier.

His lawyer, Arthur Azzopardi, argued that he was a first-time offfender when requesting bail. However, the court agreed that there existed real fears that he could tamper with evidence, given that civilians still needed to testify.

The court blocked the name from being published to protect the victims.

Inspectors John Spiteri, Sarah Kathleen Zerafa and Ryan Vella were assisting the prosecution.
