A 21-year-old man has died a few days after a car crash in Swieqi.

The accident happened at about 1.30am on 24th September along Triq il-Madliena in Swieqi.

The man was the passenger in the car. The crash happened after a 17-year-old underage female driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall.

The car was a GoTo vehicle, with many raising serious questions as to how an underage driver with no license was able to access the app and the vehicle.

He suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to Mater Dei Hosptial for treatment but died earlier today, the police said.

There were also two other passengers, a 20-year-old Swiss resident of Swieqi and a 19-year-old girl from Chile, a resident of St Julian’s.

Civil Protection members and a medical team were called to the scene to assist, and ambulances took the victims to the Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.

Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace was informed and appointed an inquiry.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
