22-year-old Maltese player Justin Tabone tragically died after suffering from a suspected heart attack while playing at the St Aloysius football pitch.

The situation was made much worse due to first aiders failing to locate a defibrillator close by, and the CPR administered was not enough.

The incident occurred on Monday night at around 9.30pm, Times of Malta has reported.

The ambulance took 15 minutes to arrive on-site, as a doctor and first aider frantically tried to resuscitate him.

It has since emerged that the St Aloysius college did indeed have two AED machines, which were located right across the street at the school itself.

The school’s rector, Fr Jimmy Bartolo, also stressed that there are signs leading people to the machines, emphasising that it was not a case of negligence.

Rest in Peace Justin Tabone
