The 23-year-old Malian man who fell four storeys on a construction site last week has succumbed to his injuries, Moviment Graffitti said today during a street protest highlighting the high cost of the construction industry.

His death is the latest to come after seven workers lost their lives in the last year and a half alone to a construction frenzy that is leaving Maltese families homeless, migrant workers abused, and a Maltese populace that cannot turn a corner for lack of a building site.

The Malian man, who has been left unnamed by authorities, fell four storeys while working on a construction site in Qawra just last week, on the same day that a separate building partially collapsed.

The incident took place at 2:30pm on Triq Annetto Caruana, and came soon after Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced a temporary suspension on all demolition and excavation works.

He was rushed to hospital following the incident and confirmed to be in a critical condition.

When contacted by Lovin Malta, police said they were not aware that he had passed. Attempts to contact officials at Mater Dei were left unanswered.
