The driver who crashed into a Gżira outlet in the early hours of the morning was high on drugs that made him feel “omnipotent”, initial reports are indicating.

The 33-year-old, who is reportedly of French and Algerian descent, also did not know the female victim in the crash, ONE News reported.

Tests results show that the man was under the effects of drugs, however it hasn’t been officially revealed which drugs he was on. Times of Malta reported that it was cocaine.

The man was driving a BMW when he drove into a petrol station and the side of a KFC restaurant in Gżira at around 1am this morning. His victim was a 30-year-old Turkish woman, who lived in Gżira. She was certified dead shortly after the accident.

The man reportedly became aggressive after he exited the crashed car, even becoming aggressive with people who tried to check up on the female victim, as well as police officers who arrived on the scene.

Police officers needed to use their taser guns to get him under control.

He is currently in police custody.
