A suspicious shipment of cans of pineapple has turned out to be Malta’s largest ever drug haul. Over 350kg of cocaine has been seized at the Malta Freeport while on route to Spain from Ecuador.
The shipment, which was made up of six large sacks of bags, was tagged as high risk by Customs inspectors, and later discovered to be chock full of white powder – a.k.a cocaine.
How do you like them pineapples?
Tests on the cocaine’s purity are yet to take place, but so far it’s been reported that the street value of the drugs discovered is estimated to be €70 per gram, meaning the estimated value of the whole shipment is around €25 million.
But that’s gone to the toilet faster than you can say Pina Colada.
