A Nigerian man has been charged in court after publicly assaulting two police officers in Qawra.

John Okolo, 36 from Nigeria, has been remanded in custody after being charged with disobeying orders, threatening police officers, resisting arrest, and slightly injuring two police officers, NET reported.

In court, Magistrate Astrid May Grima said that Okolo refused to pay his bus fare, and was being escorted off the bus by the officers. However, instead of leaving the bus, he fought back, leading to a struggle between the three as bystanders watched.

During the fight, the man can be filmed punching one officer in the face.

Okolo does not have a fixed address and has no connections in Malta. He was not given bail.
