36-Year-Old Somali Man Arrested In Relation To Drug Trafficking In Marsa
A 36-year-old Somali man has just been arrested in relation to drug trafficking occurring in Marsa.
Following information that drug trafficking was allegedly taking place in a residence on Triq Doublet, the police began surveillance on this residence for suspicious movements.
Yesterday, the police observed the man leaving the residence and followed him until they noticed him handing over packages to certain individuals and receiving money in return.
As a result, the Somali man was stopped on Triq Azzopardi, a search was conducted on him, and it was found that he was in possession of drugs, allegedly cannabis, and cash.
A search was also conducted on the other man, where it was found that he had a quantity of suspected cannabis that he had allegedly just purchased from the Somali man. He was arrested and taken to the station to assist in the investigations.
While the 36-year-old Somali man was also arrested, the police continued their investigation at his residence, where another search led to the discovery of a quantity of drugs, allegedly cocaine and cannabis, various other objects related to drug trafficking, and a sum of cash.
Magistrate Anthony Agius Bonnici has appointed an inquiry.
The Somali man is being held in custody at the Floriana Police lock-up and is expected to be brought to court today at around 12.30pm before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo.
