4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Registered In Sicily Felt By Eastern Maltese Localities
A 4.5 magnitude earthquake registered in Sicily last night was reportedly felt by a number of Maltese localities on the east of the island.
The seismic monitoring and research group from the University of Malta registered the earthquake at around 9.30pm, at 4.5 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake’s epicentre was registered in the town of Ragusa in Sicily, but the tremor was still felt in Malta even though it happened kilometres away.
People from Sliema, Swieqi, Pembroke, and Valletta reportedly felt the tremor, as well as a number of towns on the Gozitan island.
This is virtually the third recent earthquake to be felt from the Maltese islands after a 4.5 magnitude earthquake happened off the coast of Gozo in November, followed by a 3.3 magnitude tremor the next day.
