40% Of July’s Tourists Were Under 25 Years Old

Inbound tourism in the month of July has increased by 18.5% from last year and almost 40% of them were 24 and younger.

Numbers published by the National Statistics Office show that 361,628 tourists came to Malta for holiday purposes while 10,100 came for business. 

39.9% of inbound tourists were aged between zero and 24, followed by the 25 to 44 age bracket (33%). Italian, British and French residents made up 48.5% of total inbound tourists.

Total nights spent went up by 9.8% when compared to July 2023, reaching almost 2.8 million nights. 89.2% of guest nights were spent in rented accommodation establishments (this include hotels, guesthouses, hostels, flats and more) – this number experienced a 22.1% increase.

The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 7.2 nights.

Total tourist expenditure experienced a 20.7% increase, amounting to almost €403.9 million over the corresponding month of last year. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €142 increasing from €132.

Between January and July of this year, Malta received almost two million tourists – a 22.4% increase. Total nights spent increased by 14.3% while total tourist expenditure went up 23.6% from the same period last year.
