At least 40 people have been arrested as part of an operation coordinated by the Home Affairs Ministry.

Police officers alongside members of the Health Directorate and Detention Services inspected a number of locations in Marsa, Attard and Ħamrun.

In these locations, a number of individuals of foreign nationality were found to be living in inhumane conditions, without the necessary documents to be in Malta, the Ministry said.

Following the arrest, the process for these individuals to be removed from the island has begun.

Authorities will also be investigating owners and landlords of the properties where the individuals were living.

This intervention is the latest in a series of weekly hands-on operations being carried out by Malta’s security forces in the face of potential undocumented migrants, with residents cooperating with officials to point out illegal situations.

“In the coming weeks, these operations will be strengthened and there will be other such operations across the island, including Gozo. This is being done so the state can continue fighting against illegal migration as part of a strategy built on prevention, repatriation and relocation,” Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said.
