40-Year-Old Sliema Resident Dies While Jumping Into Sea Near Tigne’

A 40-year-old man has died after jumping into the sea near Tigne’, Sliema, police have confirmed.

The man, a Turkish national who lives in Sliema, was found injured on the rocky shore near Tigne’ around 3.30pm today, police said.

The man became injured while jumping into the sea in the area’s vicinities.

Members of the Civil Protection Department as well as medics assisted the man before he was rushed by ambulance to Mater Dei. However, he was certified dead shortly after.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli has opened an inquiry while police investigations continue.

Footage of the rescue mission underway was released earlier today, with emergency responders rushing to the busy shopping district to attempt to rescue the man.
