Police have confirmed a 43-year-old Polish man tragically lost his life this afternoon after getting into difficulty while swimming at Ramla l-Ħamra in  Gozo.

The incident happened at around 1.30pm. Lifeguards from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) and a medical team from Gozo General Hospital rushed to assist the man, administering first aid on site.

Sadly, despite their efforts, he was certified dead a short while later.

Magistrate Dr Brigitte Sultana has been informed and launched a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations into the case are still underway.
