45-Year-Old Woman Sent Back To Jail Shortly After Being Released

Convicted fraudster Alexia Cross Micallef has recently come under fire once again after admitting to the police that she had scammed around 36 people only weeks after being released from jail.

The 45-year-old was arrested last month after facing a hefty number of charges against her. 25 different people had reported that Micallef had offered them properties to let, disguised as a “landlady,” but failed to mention that the properties were already occupied by other third parties.

Her ruse worked, and she managed to swindle her way through a reported figure of €30,000.

The woman had originally pleaded not guilty when arraigned in June, but her court case resumed session on Wednesday.

The prosecution later informed the judge that the charges had increased from 25 to 48 based on new reports by other victims after hearing about the aforementioned court case. According to Magistrate Vella, the implications of the admission for the accused could result in a very hefty punishment of around three to seven years.

After taking note of the accused’s cooperation in court and hearing her plea, the court condemned her to a four-and-a-half-year term and issued a treatment and supervision order for another five years once her sentence is served.
