500 Y-Plated Cabs Removed From The Road Upon Discovering ‘Fake’ Garages, Times Of Malta Reveals
Around 500 Y-plated cabs were taken off the road after officials discovered that spaces listed as public service garages were actually fields, stores and shops, the Times of Malta revealed.
A handful of fleet-owning companies – like WT Globals and TXGO – also had their licenses suspended while cab-hailing apps like Bolt and eCabs have been told to remove vehicles operated by offending firms from their platforms.
This comes merely two weeks after almost 900 Y-plate vehicles were taken off the road because they were not being parked in commercial garages.
Inspections on addresses listed by operators as garages for their fleet, as mandated in the law, revealed that many were actually inaccessible fields, storage spaces or shops.
Both WT Globals and TXGO confirmed their licenses had been suspended.
WT Globals denied any wrongdoing while TXGO stated that it had not been given enough time to fix outstanding issues.
