64-Year-Old Man Dies After Firework Factory Explosion In Kirkop

A 64-year-old Kirkop resident has died after an explosion took place at the San Ġużepp Firework Factory on Triq Ħal-Far, while at least three other people have been hospitalised.

The San Ġużepp Musical Society announced the loss on their Facebook page and named the man as Leonard Camilleri – ex-licencee of St. Joseph Fireworks Factory in Kirkop, however this has not yet been confirmed by police. 

He was in the room when the explosion occurred.

The police informed Lovin Malta that two men from Żurrieq aged 63 and 72 working in nearby fields, along with a 45-year-old from Kirkop who was in the room were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The nature of their injuries are not confirmed.

Update: the 63 and 45-year-old men were certified to have suffered from light injuries while the 72-year-old man did not sustain any injuries.
