A 66-year-old German unfortunately lost his life after experiencing difficulty while he was diving in Wied iż-Żurrieq.

At around 4pm, Police were informed that a man had found himself in difficulty and was being assisted by members of the Maltese Red Cross Society in the area. 

They continued to assist until a medical team and members from the Civil Protection Department arrived. 

The man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment but unfortunately, he was certified dead shortly after. 

Police are continuing their investigation, while an inquiry led by Magistrate Leonard Caruana has been opened.
