A 67-year-old Dingli resident was arrested for human trafficking after a joint investigation between the police and JobsPlus found that he was allegedly bringing in illegal third country nationals.

The man applied to bring workers to Malta, however, investigators found that the number of prospective workers that he brought far exceeded the real demand of workers he needed for his business to operate.

He allegedly made false statements to the competent authorities, stating that he needed this number of workers to be able to operate three restaurants when in reality, one of the restaurants was in the process of closing while another one hadn’t opened yet.

After his arrest, he has been kept in the police lock-up in Floriana and he is expected to be brought to court early this afternoon before Magistrate Monica Vella accused of human trafficking, making false statements, exploitation, and more.
