73 New Soldiers Join Malta’s Armed Forces

Malta’s Armed Forces just got a major boost with 73 new recruits officially joining the ranks and this year’s intake includes ten women.
The soldiers took their oath of allegiance during a passing out ceremony packed with pride and celebration. It marked one of the biggest recruit turnouts in recent years, with record numbers applying to join the army.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri praised the new recruits and highlighted the historic improvements within the force, including a collective agreement that brought better salaries, working conditions, rights, and pensions. He also confirmed that new negotiations are already underway to improve them even further.
But with that investment, he added, comes great responsibility. Minister Camilleri called on all AFM members to remain disciplined and loyal to the constitution and the law at all times.
Armed Forces Commander Brigadier Clifton O’Neill said the record turnout is a sign the force is on the right path and continuing to attract young talent. The goal? To keep renewing and strengthening the AFM for years to come.
Each year, the Armed Forces open recruitment once, last year, 53 gunners signed up. The course runs for about 19 weeks and includes rigorous physical and military training. Currently, 12 officer cadets are also undergoing training, with some even training abroad.
During the ceremony Jeanelle Falzon was also named Best Recruit.
