An 80-year-old man died after struggling to swim in Mġarr, near the port in Gozo on Friday.

Police said that the man, a resident of Nadur, was swimming in the afternoon when he found himself in difficulty.

Medics brought him out of the sea for treatment but was certified dead at the scene.

Investigations are underway.
