No less than 890 vehicles were stopped by police officers working hand in hand with the Armed Forces of Malta on New Year’s Eve.

In a number of controlled roadblocks set up around Malta and Gozo, officers inspected hundreds of cars to see if all laws were being followed.

A number of traffic regulations were found to have been broken by a number of drivers, including driving without a valid license, driving without a seatbelt on and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police handed out several fines following the inspections, thanking the public for their cooperation.
