90 Migrants Aboard ‘Drifting’ Wooden Boat After Running Out Of Fuel In Malta’s SAR Zone
A vessel with 90 migrants aboard, including one pregnant woman, has run out of fuel and is drifting in Malta’s Search and Rescue Zone, the emergency hotline Alarmphone has reported.
The hotline urged urgent action by Maltese authorities to ensure the migrants did not drown.
“The boat is still drifting and water is coming in. One pregnant needs medical assistance. Two merchant vessels ‘Marina’ and ‘Pyxis Epsilon’ are monitoring – but no rescue in sight,” Alarmphone posted at about 3am this morning.
“Authorities are informed but do not take responsibility. A tragedy can happen at any moment.”
The boat is still drifting and water is coming in.

This vessel comes as 56 migrants currently remain aboard a Captain Morgan cruise ship in the middle of the Mediterranean awaiting assistance from the European Union.
