Abela Hits Out At Jason Azzopardi For Requesting Investigation Into Magistrates

Prime Minister Robert Abela accused Jason Azzopardi of carrying out a “fierce attack against the judiciary” after the lawyer requested an investigation into two magistrates over a decision to reject his request for three inquiries into Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri.

Azzopardi is appealing a court decision to reject his requests for three magisterial inquiry into Camilleri over allegations involving road works in Nadur, mooring spots at the Mġarr harbour and works on a swimming pool and aquatic centre in Rabat.

He said that while Magistrate Brigitte Sultana was supposed to be handling his swimming pool request, it was Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech who rejected it.

Azzopardi said that the electronic document that was emailed to him listed Frendo Dimech, and not Sultana, as the author.

He warned that Frendo Dimech’s decision was used as a template for the other two rejections and said they should therefore all be considered null and void.

He also called for an investigation “on various levels”.

Abela then lashed out at Azzopardi, claiming that the “PN’s extremist wing has just carried out its harshest attack against the judiciary.”

“Just because a magistrate didn’t rule the way they wanted, they are accusing her of complicity in a crime and requested an investigation on various levels into two magistrates.”

“I also take note of the deafening silence and lack of condemnation by the friends of the extremist faction in Brussels, who hypocritically smear Malta’s name. Absolute double standards.”
