Abela To ‘Address The Nation’ Soon After Urgent OPM Meeting Ends

Prime Minister Robert Abela is set to address the nation and take media questions after an urgent parliamentary group meeting came to an end.

Questioned by NET News after the meeting, Abela said he couldn’t reveal what was just decided, and would detail everything in a press conference soon.

Speculation is rife on whether Abela is set to open a new inquiry into the death of 20-year-old Jean Paul Sofia following widespread public condemnation, hours before a vigil dedicated to him – and just moments after the inquiring magistrate requested a sixth extension to deliver her findings.

Earlier today, former prime minister Joseph Muscat spoke out publicly about the ongoing debate, saying not only does he believe a public inquiry should be opened into Sofia’s death, but also into the deaths of others who died as a result of the construction industry.

Meanwhile, a vigil for Jean Paul which is expected to mobilise a large amount of people to Valletta and has triggered an overwhelming wave of support online is set to kick off in front of Castille Palace in a mere couple of hours, at 8pm.
