‘Abela Told Me He Has Evidence Karl Gouder Was Extorted’ – Grech
PN leader Bernard Grech said Prime Minister Robert Abela personally told him during an informal meeting that he knew of evidence that Karl Gouder was extorted before his tragic death.
Abela and other PL officials met Grech for a coffee and a chat at Dar Ċentrali shortly after Gouder’s tragic death in September.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister said that the meeting turned out to be a “trap” and that afterwards, Grech reported him to the magistrate investigating Gouder’s death.
However, Grech has now provided a different version of events.
He said that at one point, outgoing PL deputy leader Daniel Micallef remarked that he understood Gouder’s death to have been the result of extortion.
“At this, Robert Abela jumped from his seat and, pointing his finger, exclaimed, ‘Not understood! That’s exactly it, and with evidence! With evidence!”
When PN officials were summoned to the inquiry, they informed the magistrate of what Abela had told them. The magistrate promptly summoned Abela to testify.
“Robert Abela repeated this narrative to several other individuals for his political convenience and partisan interests, yet at no point did he feel compelled to go to the Magistrate. This is truly a case of cowardice — throwing the stone and hiding the hand,” Grech said.
“Robert Abela’s presence at Partit Nazzjonalista Headquarters was his own decision; he brought whoever he wanted, stayed as long as he wanted, and said whatever he wanted.”
“All this confirms how Robert Abela is a dangerous and irresponsible politician who will go to any lengths to protect himself.”
“Unlike Robert Abela, the PN will continue to insist on uncovering the truth and ensuring that if anyone drove the beloved Karl Gouder to his death, they face justice accordingly.”
