‘Absurd And Mysterious’: Imam Condemns Email Bomb Threat Targeting Malta’s Schools

In a strongly-worded statement following Monday’s email bomb threat sent to multiple schools in Malta, Imam Mohammad Elsadi has denounced the act as “nonsense, absurd, and mysterious.”
The alarming email, which contained extremist language, was dismissed by the Imam.
Imam Elsadi, leader of the Muslim community in Malta, described the statement as the work of a “criminal third party” aiming to create division and hatred among communities.
“The threatening statement emailed to many schools in Malta yesterday is nonsense, absurd, and mysterious. Its content reflects the ignorance and silliness of its author,” he said.
He also noted that no known group or entity had claimed responsibility for the email, which targeted schools across the island, including the Islamic Mariam Albatool School. This, he said, further underlined the baseless and nonsensical nature of the statement.
The Imam condemned the act as heinous and irresponsible, emphasising its impact on innocent children who were robbed of a peaceful and secure environment.
He stressed that the bomb threat infringed on their rights to education, safety, and security, serving no legitimate cause but instead provoking fear and division.
Imam Elsadi also highlighted Malta’s strong history of coexistence and good relations with Muslim-majority countries. He noted that Malta has never been targeted by terrorism due to its support for just causes, its respect for religious freedom, and its Muslim community’s efforts to integrate and contribute positively to the country’s welfare.
The Imam reiterated the Muslim community’s commitment to combating extremism, fanaticism, and terrorism through the promotion of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for diversity and the law.
“We will continue to fight extremism by spreading the culture of peaceful existence and loyalty to the country,” he concluded.
