Adorable Maltese Dancing Pair Crowned European Champions

Keane Scerri de Carlo and Martina Camilleri haven’t even turned 10 years old yet, but they’ve definitely already found their calling. The nine-year-old pair are avid dancers, and all their training is already proving to be very fruitful. Numerous awards and medals down the line, the two were crowned European Champions last weekend.

This latest competition saw the two young dancers placing first in the Under 10 Latin category. They even made it to the semifinals of the under 12 category even though they were up against older dancers. Oh, and the 2018 Juvenile Blackpool Latin Champions even made it to second place at the European Championship Under 10 Ballroom competition. All of that in a night’s work.

The two Maltese kids are definitely not new to grand competitions. Closing off 2017 by placing in the whole world as far as Ballroom dancing goes (at a competition in Paris), last weekend’s award isn’t even their first of 2018.

In January, Keane and Martina kicked off their year by placing first in the Latin dancing and second in Ballroom in the Under 11 categories. In March, they won both the Under 10 and the Under 12 Latin and Ballroom at the Home Countries Trophy Day. And to bring it all home, the pair got gold at a prestigious Blackpool competition bringing together some of the best young dancers in Europe.

“They train six days a week, five hours every day,” their trainer Rosella from Steps Ahead Dance Academy told Lovin Malta. Rosella isn’t just their trainer though; she’s also Keane’s mother. Together with her husband, Rosella trains the two young dancers and helps them on their journey to fame.

“They have been travelling all over Europe for their training and competition,” Rosella told Lovin Malta. “England, Italy, Paris, the Netherlands, Ukraine… everywhere.”

“Their schedule can be very demanding sometimes considering that we have to manage our studio, their school studies along with all heir training and competitions,” Rossella told Lovin Malta. “But we do it with pride and joy. They’re  a big responsibility but a big pride too.”

Keane and Martina’s accomplishments were celebrated over Facebook, with family and friends wishing them the very best for future competitions.

Malta’s Steps Ahead Dance Academy and Bournemouth’s Nice n Easy Dance Studios, which both support and work with the two Maltese children, wished them the very best after their impressive show which got them the well-deserved champions’ title. Keane and Martina also dance with some top international coaches, which just goes to show how dedicated (and full of raw talent) the adorable dancing pair are.
