ADPD Leader: ‘Malta Doesn’t Need More Hotels Or High-Rise Towers’

ADPD’s leader Sandra Gauci has proposed a moratorium on the construction of hotels and high-rise towers.
Gauci made these radical proposals during a debate on Popolin last night, as PL and PN MPs argued over Malta’s overpopulation problem.
“I will tell you how we can reduce the number of people,” she began. “First of all, we must have less construction. The construction industry has taken over our lives and brought a lot of cheap labour over.”

“ADPD has proposed a cap on the construction of hotels. We don’t need anymore hotels. We already need five million tourists a year to fill the hotel beds we have – where can we fit 5 million tourists when there’s barely any room for us?”
And with Mercury, Malta’s tallest building, set to officially launch tomorrow, Gauci insisted that no others should follow anytime soon.
“If your grandmother gave you a house and you want to build four storeys on it, then go ahead but we don’t need any more high-rise towers,” she said.
