Adrian Delia Has ‘Sleepless Night’ With Crucial Steward-Vitals Judgement Imminent

Nationalist MP Adrian Delia said he had a sleepless night in anticipation of a court’s judgment in his longstanding case against the Vitals-Steward hospital deal, which is expected this afternoon.

“I couldn’t sleep last night, the feeling of anticipation was too great,” Delia said in a poem.

“This case means too much – it means the truth, principles, a fight for what is right, and never conceding when faced with corruption. It means that people should never stop until justice is obtained.”

“The voyage was long and often lonely, but I found friends along the journey – genuine Maltese people who believe in righteousness, who believed in me and who never left me alone. I don’t have enough words to tell them how grateful I am.”

“No matter what happens today I have no regrets. I did all I could over the past five years. If I lose, I will hurt alone but if I win, it will be a victory for the people.”

Delia’s case, which he filed around five years ago when he was PN leader, calls for the scrapping of the concession that placed Vitals Global Healthcare, and later Steward Healthcare, in charge of the St Luke’s, Karin Grech, and Gozo hospitals.

The main thrust of his argument is that Vitals had breached several terms of the contract and that the government, therefore, had no right to allow it to transfer the contract to Steward.

A judgement was originally expected on 30th January but Judge Francesco Depasquale deferred it to today, 24th February, due to the complexity of the case.
