Adrian Delia Is Creating PN Divisions Rather Than Assuming Political Responsibility, Dissenting MPs Warn

Adrian Delia’s stern reaction to the latest leadership crisis was evidence that he was more focused on creating division in the party rather than assuming political responsibility, dissenting MPs have warned.

“For Adrian Delia, anyone who dares to express a different opinion from his own should be rejected, threatened and harassed,” the MPs said in a statement.

Delia has so far lost confidence votes in PN parliamentary group and the PN executive committee, while the party’s youth wing has called on his to resign.

Rather than listen to the advice, the MPs said, Delia has pursued a campaign of division, noting that he has opened up disciplinary proceedings against the MZPN members, attacked dissenting MPs on national media, and used PN media to issue threats against people who have differing opinions to his own.

“Adrian Delia’s attitude and behaviour are not worthy of a Nationalist Party leader,” they said.

In contrast, the MPs said, their group was looking to bring unity into the party and allow new ideas and personalities to enter the fray to enable the party’s regeneration as a political force.

“The PN has two options: either have a Party Leader who unites and makes the party younger and a winner or have a Party Leader who separates and wants to stifle the voice of the youth,” they said.

The executive committee will meet this Thursday to discuss a way forward. Delia has hinted he is considering a fresh confidence vote before the general council, saying that if he loses there he would step down.
