The Leader of the Nationalist Party has called for the temporary shutting down of all Maltese and Gozitan schools “without any more delay for the good of our students”.

“Take action before it will be too late,” Adrian Delia said today.

“The Nationalist Party is calling for the immediate temporary closing of all schools in light of the national and international developments regarding COVID-19,” Delia said.

He went on to say that as more and more cases appear, it is authorities’ responsibility to ensure that the spread of the virus is inhibited as much as possible.

Delia asked whether the lack of action taken over the last few weeks, even in light of the MUT’s recommendation to at least have sanitizers in each classroom.

He reported that some schools are currently facing just 40% attendance rates as parents decide not to send their children to school.

“If action is not taken the opportunity for the virus to spread with the risk of thousands of students and their families becoming ill. The PN is asking for the immediate and necessary discussion so that things are done urgently but with calmness and the least damage possible,” he ended.
