After Prime Minister Calls Him ‘Ultra-Cruel’, Mark Camilleri Warns Of ‘Gaslighting’

Mark Camilleri has accused Robert Abela of “gaslighting” after the Prime Minister referred to him as “ultra-cruel” and accused him of “publicly butchering” Rosianne Cutajar.
Abela took a snipe at Camilleri earlier this week while announcing to journalists that he was considering reintegrating Cutajar back into the Labour Party.
Cutajar had resigned from the PL’s parliamentary group in April 2023 after Camilleri published her WhatsApp history with Daphne Caruana Galizia murder suspect Yorgen Fenech.
This was despite a court order preventing the publication of content from Fenech’s phone.
Although Abela insisted a few months ago that Cutajar’s resignation was a sign of “high standards”, he changed his tune dramatically this week, stating he believes she has paid for her actions through a political “capital punishment”.

“Let’s be realistic with each other, this person was butchered publicly by an ultra-cruel person,” he said.
Camilleri wrote in an article on his blog that he wasn’t surprised by Abela’s comment.
“Even this is not surprising, and not because this isn’t the first time that Robert Abela vented his contempt at me in public, apart from doing it regularly in private,” he wrote.
“A conventional psychologist would call this ‘gaslighting’. In politics, we call this the subversion of democracy and the criminal and authoritarian contempt for free speech and the press.”
“Let’s be very clear here. Robert Abela is not just welcoming literal corrupt individuals back into the Government, but also welcoming two individuals with ties to the alleged mastermind behind Daphne’s murder, Yorgen Fenech, while simultaneously making a direct attack on the free and independent press.”
