After Today’s Thundery Start, Here’s The Weather In Malta For The Rest Of The Week

Eesh. Having the entire sky turn very dark grey and thunder to incessantly hit the islands is not what you’d expect from the first couple of days of summer in Malta, but that’s exactly what people woke up to this morning (or, if you’re like us, got to work in thin floral shirts to). The good thing is, the tides might be turning… again.

Before the sun returns, however, it might be safe to forget swimming and sunbathing for the rest of the day. The airport’s weather forecast page even has a yellow warning with regards to the thundery showers which are expected to continue hitting the islands, and that is set to have an effect on the temperature as well. For the first in what feels like weeks, in fact, the apparent temperature will not make it to the 30s, staying instead at a slightly fresher 28°C. The wind might not offer much in the way of solace, with Forces 2 and 3 expected to settle on the islands. But even that is set to change.

Tuesday – and the rest of the week for that matter – is set to bring a change in… well, everything. For starters, the sun will come out and should be making an appearance for the whole week. That of course also means that the UV index will also be steadily going up again, after today’s drop to 8. Temperatures will start rising again, starting at apparent temperatures of 31°C today and gradually climbing as the weekend arrives.

Interestingly, however, the wind will start picking up as of this evening, making it all the way up to the now-familiar Forces 5 and 6 over Wednesday. This week’s evenings look like the only stable thing about the weather, with temperatures of 20°C across the board.

If you were hoping for sunnier and hotter spells to really make the most of summer’s first days, however, you’re in luck as far as the weekend goes.

Friday’s public holiday looks set to bring even warmer temperatures and a summery start to the long weekend, with temperatures starting off at highs of 30°C going all the way up to apparent semi-heatwaves of 34°C on Saturday and Sunday.

The wind will also die down by the end of the week, turning to southeasterly Force 3 spells on Saturday. And as longer moments of sun are set to welcome us into July on Sunday, the UV index will go back up to 10, with 1st July’s evening temperature bumping up to 21°C.
