Maltese Tennis Star Alex Degabriele Hits Doubles Top Spot In Major Junior Tournament In Cyprus

Malta’s own tennis sensation Alex Degabriele has brought home gold in the doubles of the ITF4, a ranked international tournament held in Cyprus.

Together with Oliver Hauge from Great Britain, the two stormed their way through to the final, where they got the better of top seeds Dominic Ducariu (Germany) and Oleg Grzegorzewski (Poland) with a score of 7-6 and 6-4.

Before that, the Malta-Britain duo overcame some tough opposition in the form of Israeli opponents in their first round. They then beat a Cypriot duo in the quarter-final 6-2, 6-2.

In one dominant display, they saw off their semifinal opponents with a score of 6-1, 6-1, paving their way to the final, and later, to the top spot.

Later this year, Degabriele will be taking his game to the United States after signing a deal with North Carolina Wilmington University, where he will launch his professional career featuring as a regular player in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Success in Larnaca wasn’t the first in his repertoire. Alex dominated his sport at both national and international levels, bagging some awesome results abroad, most recently in Turkey.

His most recent performances had him hit one semi-final and one final in as many ranked competitions.
