All Eyes On PN: What To Expect From Today’s Election

Three months of campaigning will draw to an end today as the Nationalist Party elects its new leader.
Tesserati will cast their votes for Alex Borg or Adrian Delia between 9am and 7pm in Malta, and between 9am and 5pm in Gozo.
Over 25,000 people are eligible to vote.
Counting will start at Dar Ċentrali at around 8pm, where supporters of both candidates are expected to gather in anticipation.
The final result is expected to be announced late at night, but an official indication could be revealed sooner, depending on how close the vote is.
In 2020, Bernard Grech was declared the winner at around 8 pm, defeating incumbent Adrian Delia by a significant margin, later confirmed to be 69.3% of the vote.
By contrast, in 2017, Delia was announced as the winner at 9 pm, narrowly beating Chris Said with 52.7% of the vote.
Although the candidates themselves won’t be present at Dar Ċentrali during the vote-counting process, the winner is expected to make an appearance and provide their first post-victory comments once the result is clear. The defeated candidate may also choose to attend as a gesture of unity.
Both candidates are vying to leave a mark on their party’s history.
A victory for Borg will see him become the PN’s youngest ever leader, while a Delia victory will see him become the first ever former PN leader to return to the post.
The Labour Party will also be following the election closely, and a special political programme will air on ONE TV at 8pm.
